Why a Non-Multi K-pop Fandom Only Stands for Their Ultimate Group
As a non-multi K-pop fandom fan, question arises: why do I only stan and support my ultimate group? Unlike many others who dive into a multitude of K-pop groups, my journey began as a multi-fandom enthusiast until I moved to Asia. Here, I explore the reasons behind my decision to dedicate myself to just one idol group and how this choice has enriched my experience as a fan.
Life as a Multi-fandom Fandom Enthusiast
Initially, being a multi-fandom fan was exciting. I followed various K-pop groups such as SMTown, YG Family, GOT7, and BTS in the same year. Each group brought its own unique charm and style, keeping my interest and excitement at a high level. I went to concerts, supported fanclubs, and attended special events, immersing myself in the vibrant K-pop culture. The varied experiences exposed me to different aspects of K-pop, from the communities to the performances.
The Realization
A significant turning point came when I moved to Japan and attended a concert of many of these idol groups. This experience allowed me to see their talents and the performances firsthand. However, the realization set in that most fans in Asia were focusing on a single group, often their ultimate group. This observation sparked curiosity about what makes fans choose one over multiple groups.
The Special Connection with My Ultimate Group
As I continued my journey, I grew more and more active with my ultimate idol group. I joined the official fanclub, participated in special fanclub concerts, and even attended fan events. I found myself attending concerts and meetings for my ultimate group, flying to Korea to experience their musicals and performances. As I became more engaged with my ultimate group, I found myself with less time and money to focus on other groups.
One pivotal moment came when I had to choose between attending a concert of my ultimate group and the concerts of two other popular groups. This decision forced me to face a hard truth: I could not give all of my time and effort to multiple groups. I decided to prioritize the experience with my ultimate group, specifically attending their fan meet in Korea. This decision was the best choice I ever made.
The Ultimate Group: A Special One-on-One Experience
My ultimate group not only captivated me with their performances and the environment they create, but they also provided a level of personal connection that other groups could not. During the fan meet in Korea, a member from my ultimate group recognized me and remembered my previous visit from Japan. He said, “Oh! I remember you from Japan. You came here just for us. Yes, I’m so happy.” This recognition and the one-on-one interaction with my biases (favorite members of the group) solidified the special bond I share with my ultimate group.
While I still listen to and enjoy music from other groups, the experience of being part of a specific fan base has been invaluable. The opportunities to see my ultimate group live, such as fan meets, trips to perform in musicals, and concerts, have provided a unique sense of belonging and camaraderie. These experiences are irreplaceable and make me dedicate my support to my ultimate group.
Choosing to focus on one group has been a journey of self-discovery and ensuring that I can provide unwavering support and attention to the group that means the most to me. In the world of K-pop fandom, it is clear that the one-on-one experiences and personal interactions are what make the ultimate fan connection.
So, while I respect the passion of multi-fandom fans, my ultimate decision to stan and support just one group has been a rewarding choice, fostering deep personal connections and unforgettable experiences.
