Why Not All Girls Love Dressing Up: A Personal Perspective

Why Not All Girls Love Dressing Up: A Personal Perspective

Is it weird that as a girl I hate dressing up? No! Just practical. I have been a 'girl' for 64 years and I've never been interested in fashion. It's not as abnormal as you might think. In fact, I've had to force myself to learn a little about color combinations and 'old-lady' styles as my kids call it. Fashion sense never came to me naturally.

Your Unique Style is a Birthright

Realize that a person who is skilled in fashion has to have a certain talent for style and maybe visual aesthetics. We are not all born with such skill or talent. HA! I surely wasn't. To this day, my sister will look askance at some of my decorating choices. Let’s just say my house is clean and tidy but the décor doesn’t necessarily sync or match. My clothes are like that sometimes. But I’m comfortable and modest, and even in my mid-60's, I’m much more interested in the outdoors and athletic activity than I’ve ever been in fashion. Unlike someone born with a natural talent for style, I had to learn the basics through trial and error.

Everyone is Born with Innate Talents, Bents, and Interests

You are born with innate talents, inclinations, and interests. Follow those. Adhering to societal norms or stereotypes about what girls or boys should like can be inhibiting. Instead of trying to fit into a mold, embrace what aligns with your natural traits and passions.

Challenging Stereotypes: Dressing Up is Not Exclusively for Girls

For those who believe that dressing up is strictly for girls, think again. Society tends to enforce stereotypical views of ‘normal’ without considering individual preferences and choices. Stereotypes such as 'all girls like dressing up' are limiting and can be harmful. It’s crucial to recognize that everyone, regardless of gender, can have a range of different style preferences and ways of dressing.

Some girls love dressing up, and some girls hate it. Similarly, some boys enjoy fashion, while others do not. Embrace your own unique sense of style and let go of societal pressures. The world is a diverse place, and so are its dressers. Celebrate individuality and respect everyone’s personal style choices, no matter what they may be.

Everyone Has a Different Style, It's Completely Up to You

Diversity in attire is one of the most beautiful facets of human expression. Being born with a particular talent for fashion is a privilege, but it’s not a requirement. Fashion is a personal journey, and it’s up to each individual to find and express their own unique style. It’s important to follow your own inclinations and yes, be true to yourself. In the end, the key lies in personal preferences and individual tastes, rather than societal expectations and stereotypes.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the beauty of diversity in attire is that there is no 'one size fits all' solution. Embrace your individuality, whether that aligns with traditional fashion norms or steps beyond them. Just as it's not weird for me to hate dressing up, it’s also not weird for anyone to love it. What matters most is that you are comfortable and true to yourself. Follow your innate talents, inclinations, and interests, and let your unique style shine through.
