Why Am I Pursuing a Career as a Singer?
It’s a question that often sparks introspection and reflection. For some, the calling is clear from an early age, while for others, it's a journey that unfolds gradually. In my case, my passion for music began early, but it was a particular incident that pushed me towards becoming a singer. Let me share my story.
Early Inspirations and the Beginning of My Journey
I’ve always felt drawn to creative pursuits, be it painting, drawing, or playing music. However, it was my love for singing that truly set me apart. Singing has a unique ability to transcend emotions and provide solace in times of need. It is through music and song that I find my voice and a way to connect with others.
One specific event from around second grade made a significant impact on my journey. There was a school singing contest where students could participate either individually or in pairs. Unfortunately, I struggled to come up with a song selection. It was then that a young girl, around a year younger than me, took the stage and captivated the audience with her performance. She was absolutely stunning, and her talent was something I admired wholeheartedly. However, instead of being impressed, the sight of her success made me feel incredibly envious and hurt.
That moment of feeling inadequate and jealous was a turning point for me. It instilled a fear and excitement within me that propelled me towards becoming a singer. I wanted to be the one to perform, to share my emotions through song, and to evoke joy and emotion in my audience. This desire to sing and perform grew stronger with each passing year.
The Path to Becoming a Singer
After the initial incident, I joined the primary school choir. Staying in the choir for six years exposed me to the magic of performing on stage. We had the opportunity to participate in three school productions, which opened my eyes to the depth of my passion for performing. In high school, I joined the Chapel band as a singer and have remained committed to pursuing this path.
Interestingly, my journey to becoming a singer-songwriter was not a conscious decision but rather a gradual progression. Early on, learning to play the guitar, I found that I needed to sing along to popular songs to play the chords. This led me to meet someone who was also interested in learning the guitar but was a very proficient singer. We spontaneously started harmonizing, and along the way, we formed a duo. Eventually, my friend married and moved away, but I continued performing as a lead vocalist in various small pop groups.
For every singer, the reason is often the same: a deep-seated passion for music and a desire to share their musical legacy with the world.
Passion and Inspiration
The journey of a singer-songwriter is often driven by a love for beautiful music and a desire to emulate the greats of our childhood. Listening to beloved songs regularly and wishing that it was you singing, especially of the heroes of your youth, naturally fosters the desire to create and perform. Passion is the driving force behind this pursuit.
As I continue to develop my craft, I reflect on the initial spark that led me to become a singer. It was a combination of a deep love for music and a need to express myself through song. I hope that my journey can inspire others to find their own passion and pursue their dreams with courage and dedication.
