Unveiling Hidden Talents and Unique Hobbies: A Personal Journey

Introduction

Most of us have hidden talents or unique hobbies that we keep to ourselves. While these activities may not be immediately apparent to those around us, they often represent a deeper passion or interest that we possess internally. In this article, we will explore some of the hidden talents and hobbies that I have discovered, many of which may seem odd or arcane to others.

I convert between metric and imperial systems for lengths and areas. Whether it's swapping inches for centimeters or dollars for euros, these conversions come naturally to me. I also find it fascinating to study people. By simply observing their appearance, I try to deduce their mood and personality, often getting a surprising amount of insight from a few seconds of observation.

Hidden Ambitions and Talents

Here are some of my hidden ambitions and talents:

1. Golf - I was quite the golfer, even managing to achieve two Holes in One. This certainly requires a steady hand and a good understanding of the game, which speaks to my talent in sports.

2. Folk Dancing - I used to dazzle audiences with my exhibition folk dancing. This shows my knack for dance and performing arts.

3. Singing - I was part of a few local choirs, showcasing my musical talents and voice. Singing is a versatile skill that requires both vocal prowess and the ability to harmonize with others.

Architectural Interior Design and Sewing

My degree in Architectural Interior Design speaks to my creative and design skills. I have a great eye for detail and an ability to translate abstract ideas into tangible designs. My passion for sewing is another hidden talent that reflects my desire to create something beautiful and functional from raw materials. I have created some wonderful garments and jewelry, all from a mental image and an idea in my head.

Recently, I undertook the project of designing and creating a tunic for a ritual this winter. With no pattern and only an idea in my head, I went ahead and bought the necessary materials - silk, wool, and thread. The process took a year to complete, and the result is something truly unique and meaningful to me. The neckline, however, still bothers me as it deviates from historical accuracy, but that's what I strive for - a blend of practicality and aspiration.

Language Skills and Public Speaking

Another hidden talent of mine is my proficiency in multiple languages. I speak 5 languages fluently: English, Malay/Indonesian, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Fujian. My public speaking skills have also been well-developed. I have been invited to be a guest artist as a guitarist and have performed as a pianist in numerous public concerts. Moreover, I have spoken at events in Hawaii, Sydney, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chengdu, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Horse Taming and Personal Pursuits

My horse taming skills might seem like a bit of an odd hobby to some, but it's something I find deeply fulfilling. I work with skeptical, wary, and untrusting horses, transforming them into steady, willing, and reliable companions. It's a process that requires patience, understanding, and sometimes even speaking to the horses to break through their fears. Before I started, one of these horses was traumatized and afraid, but after working with them, they became calm and willing companions. To me, this is just a part of my journey and not a particularly magical or esoteric experience.

Conclusion

What does it mean to have a hidden talent or unique hobby? For me, it's about discovering and pursuing interests that may not be immediately evident to others. These talents and hobbies are a reflection of my personal journey and the many facets of who I am. Whether it's converting units, studying people, golfing, or speaking multiple languages, each of these pursuits is a part of my unique and multifaceted identity.
