Live, it sounded even better than on the recordings, and the enhanced CDs sounded brilliant too. The instrumental performances were likewise perfect, and the entire experience was spellbinding, made all the more memorable by my seat four rows from the stage.

One of the most remarkable live recordings I have heard is the Deutsche Grammophon release of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra's performance of Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony in London. However, the challenge in answering which live performance is the best lies in the fact that most live recordings are compiled from multiple takes or combined from different performances. This makes it difficult to pinpoint a single, flawless live performance that stands above all others.
