The reason I always bring up guitar playing is to encourage young boys and girls to take up the instrument. There are countless young people around the world whose lives can be significantly enriched by learning to play the guitar. This versatile instrument, which can produce both chords and single notes, is portable and relatively inexpensive. More importantly, it can encompass virtually all forms of music, making it a fantastic choice for aspiring musicians.

Global Popularity of the Guitar

One might wonder, is the guitar truly one of the most popular musical instruments in the world? The answer is a resounding YES. In fact, the guitar is estimated to be either the first or second most popular musical instrument globally. This widespread popularity is reflected in the high numbers of guitar players worldwide. The CEO of Fender, a leading manufacturer of musical instruments, estimates that approximately 72 million people play the guitar globally. This figure is even more impressive when considering the significant surge in new guitar players that followed the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Personal Reflections on Guitar Playing

My personal experience with guitar playing is rather average. I can attest to the fact that anyone can learn to play, regardless of how far they are on the journey. Many people, including myself, can find themselves somewhere in the middle of their guitar-playing journey. For example, I consider myself to be at a similar stage to a Komodo Dragon stick insect or an Arkansas Republican married to his auntie. That being said, I am, truly terrible, at playing the guitar, highlighting the need and value of continuous practice and learning.
