The Scariest Malfunction of a Ride I've Witnessed at an Amusement Park
I grew up a mile or so from a seaside amusement park, and nearly everyone I knew either worked there or knew people who did. I never worked there, but the employees got free passes every paycheck, and many people I knew didn’t have anyone else interested in them. So, I spent a lot of my off-time exploring the park's attractions. In the following article, I share two stories of the scariest malfunction mishaps I've personally experienced.
The Dangling Feat Dilemma
For a while, my favorite ride was one that slowly drifted over the length of the park. It was designed for two-seaters, popular among the dating crowd but open enough for views to be taken in. Being tall enough to ride alone, I eagerly used the ride when it finally broke down, leaving me dangling for over forty-five minutes.
As I sat in my small car, I noticed a car behind mine. I imagined it being driven by someone trying to impress a date or perhaps a bored individual looking for an adventure. Someone must have been bored or showing off, as they attempted to climb out from under the lap bar, the only restraint. With an uncanny skill, they managed to land on top of my car, causing it to rock, trying to build up enough momentum for another jump.
I refused to watch, fearing for the safety and my own fear. Instead, I closed my eyes and started counting. After a thousand jumps, I heard the ride start again. However, it was slower than I wanted. By the time I reached the end of the ride, I was back on solid ground. I never went to check if the individual landed or if he fell.
After this incident, I never rode another ride that was more than a dozen feet from the ground again. It went from a thrilling park to a place that brought both excitement and fear into my life.
The Climbing Car Hurdle
The second story...
In summary, the amusement park is a place of joy and excitement, but also a place where malfunctions can turn into personal disasters. These stories are testaments to how important proper safety measures are. It's a reminder to always follow the rules and ensure the safety of oneself and others when participating in amusement park rides. Safety should never be compromised for the sake of thrill or dare.
