The Intent Behind Crafting Fictional Worlds and Stories

The Intent Behind Crafting Fictional Worlds and Stories

When I daydream, I tell a little story to myself. These narratives often take unexpected turns, surprising even me. Yes, my imagination can lead me to delightful twists and turns. However, these stories are often fleeting and lack the continuity they need to develop fully. During a run or some downtime, I may skip over the more complex parts, resulting in a fragmented story. But, surprisingly, I still crave continuity in my daydreams. This is why I find it essential to write them down—not just for the surprises, but also to address the continuity issues.

Why Writing Matters

Writing allows me to explore and refine the stories that my mind creates. While the act of writing can feel like work, it provides a different kind of thrill and satisfaction compared to daydreaming. The tangible form of a written story often makes more sense than a fragmented mental narrative. By putting my stories to paper, I can address narrative gaps, build upon complex ideas, and ensure a seamless flow from one scene to the next.

From Daydreams to Written Narratives

Writing is not just a means to fulfill an internal need; it is also a way to explore my motivations. I avoid the motivations based on cruder, less personal desires, such as recognition, financial gain, and respect. These elements do motivate me, but to a lesser extent than the more genuine reasons I delve into my creative work. For example, the simple joy and satisfaction of creating a piece of fiction are significant motivators. Writing for fun and to free myself from obsessive thoughts about these stories is a core drive.

Exploring Complex Themes Through Fiction

One of my stories involves groups of people living in a strange solar system, which is heavily inspired by the concepts described in "Building the Ultimate Solar System." I do not claim credit for the design of this solar system but use it as a canvas to explore deep themes. In this universe, evolution versus intelligent design is a central discussion point. The people in this strange solar system live in a carefully designed system, which starkly contrasts with our actual planet and its solar system. Through these characters, I question the nature of design and purpose, making this story more than just a thrilling ride or a showcase of diverse characters. It has a specific agenda and a goal beyond literary entertainment.

Other Stories for Fun and Fulfillment

The majority of my stories are crafted for simple enjoyment. They are written to release these narratives from my mind, to share them with others, and to ensure that they don’t obsess me. Writing these stories serves as a form of therapy, a way to process and express the compelling ideas that my imagination produces. By putting them on paper, I find a sense of fulfillment, knowing that I have finally allowed these stories to breathe and exist outside of my mind.

Ultimately, the act of writing my stories is a deeply personal journey. It allows me to explore complex themes, address continuity issues, and fulfill a need for both creative expression and intellectual exploration. Whether driven by fun, curiosity, or a desire to understand the nature of existence, these stories are a testament to the power of imagination and the limitless possibilities of fiction.
