The Haunting Call of the Departed: Hearing Dead Family Members?

Have you ever heard a dead family member calling your name between being awake and asleep? It's a phenomenon that guides say can happen, and it can be quite scary but ultimately good to know. Whether it's a living person or a deceased loved one, hearing one's name called in the middle of the night can be quite alarming.

Imagine the confusion that arises from the thought that dead people have the same capabilities as living people. It truly challenges the way we perceive life and death. The idea that we need to reconsider our terminology and definitions is fascinating. If both are essentially alive, the distinction might be more about perception than reality. This realization is not only profound but also unsettling, as it forces a rethink of our understanding of existence.

Between Sleep and Wakefulness: A Common Phenomenon?

In the in-between state of sleep and wakefulness, it's common to hear your name being called by either someone alive or departed. However, if one is fully awake and hears a voice call three times, it is generally considered not a good sign. I, myself, am mostly nocturnal, so most nights I am occupied with various activities until sleep takes over. One particular night around 2 a.m., I found myself standing at the upper landing window with a wide-open view, taking in the warm moonlit night. The scene was beautiful and serene. Suddenly, I heard my uncle calling my name and asking me to open the front door.

The voice was so convincing that it accompanied the knocking. At first, I almost answered, but I decided to check if anyone was genuinely there. From my view at the landing window, I could get a clear view of the kitchen door, but there was no one there. The knocking grew more insistent, and the same words repeated. I checked through the peephole and then through the window next to the door, but still, no one was present. It was then that I recalled my grandma's warning, a warning imparted when I was young. She had cautioned me to never answer when someone calls in the middle of the night, not even during the afternoon, and to wait until the voice calls four times before answering. So, I waited.

After the third call, the banging stopped, and there was no more calling. I waited for about half an hour before phoning my uncle to wake him from a deep sleep. To my surprise, he was 2 cities away and in bed, and said he had never come to the house at that time. This incident adds to the intrigue of the spirit phenomenon that practitioners of the dark arts use to mimic the voices of loved ones, alive or deceased. The purpose is to kill and take the soul, serving some dark and malicious purpose.

A Cautionary Tale for All

For the curious and scientifically minded, it's important to remember that not all paranormal experiences have a tangible explanation. The warning from my grandma, passed down from generation to generation, serves as a reminder of the unknown and the power of spirits in our lives. As we navigate the realms of the living and the dead, it's crucial to stay vigilant and heed the advice of those who have experienced such phenomena firsthand.
