The Enigmatic New Master in Doctor Who: A Closer Look
I have to say, the new Master is a refreshing take on the character. He strikes the perfect balance of being sinister without actually being too scary. While I found Missy quite compelling, the one right before her was a bit too creepy for my taste.
Truth be told, I've only just gotten a glimpse of the new Master, and it feels fresh. With a two-part storyline ahead, it seems like we'll have more to discuss in the coming episodes. However, no spoilers here; I can't wait to see the full plan unfold.
Exciting Revelation and Performance
Before he appeared, I had a theory that the new Master might be the character. A few days ago, I read a link with a picture of the current cast, and the headline mentioned 'Who is the Master'. From there, it wasn't difficult to deduce. Finally, the moment of truth arrived, and Sacha Dhawan did not disappoint.
I was absolutely riveted by his performance in just the first five minutes of screen time. His ability to make the Doctor seem slow and dim-witted by comparison was nothing short of brilliant. His ability to command the stage and make me invest in his character was truly remarkable. Dhawan was my pick for Doctor 13 back in the day, and for good reason.
The Master’s Debut Episode
While the debut episode of the previous season left me less than impressed, the new Master's appearance has me eagerly looking forward to his further development. Although his first appearance was deliberately vague, I’m still very excited for his full arc. To be honest, the episode was much more enjoyable than the premiere of last season. In fact, for the first time since I started streaming Doctor Who on Amazon Prime, I haven’t purchased a season outright. If the next episode is as good as the first one, I’m absolutely purchasing it.
Given the anticipation, I’m eagerly awaiting the full storyline to unfold. I’m also looking forward to his inclusion in audio boxsets and potential future episodes. The Doctor and the Master's dynamic is always intriguing, and it seems like we're in for more gripping moments.
The Future of the Master in Doctor Who
Although the return of the Master is a welcome addition, I don't necessarily want to see him anytime soon. After the substantial presence of Missy, I was happy to let the Master take a break. There are other Time Lords like the Monk, the Rani, and the War Chief Valeyard who could grace our screens. Alternatively, the writers could introduce a new Time Lord, as Big Finish did with the Doom Coalition.
However, given the impact of the Master so far, it's clear that he has immense potential. The character's enigmatic nature makes him a compelling force in the universe of Doctor Who, and I'm certain fans will continue to be captivated by his storyline.
Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses, and if you haven't checked out Doctor Who yet, I highly recommend giving it a try.
