Did Rachael Ray’s Dog Isaboo Die?
Isaboo: The Passing of a Beloved Dog
As fans of Rachael Ray, we at North Shore Animal League America are deeply saddened by the loss of her cherished Pit Bull, Isaboo. Rachael and her husband, John Cusimano, have been holding each other close in their grief as they mourn the passing of their beloved pet.
On May 20, 2020, Isaboo passed away peacefully in her backyard in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. While a sad moment, it came in a place of love and comfort, surrounded by the family that had adopted her in 2005. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Rachael wrote, 'Isaboo passed in her backyard in the sun in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. In our arms. Peacefully.'
Rachael Ray and Isaboo: A Unique Journey
From the beginning of their journey together, Rachael Ray saw the profound impact Isaboo had on her life. ‘Isaboo was a postage stamp of a dog,’ Rachael once said, ‘but she had a huge heart and a big spirit. She was a whole dog with no part of her that wasn’t amazing. She was such a gentle soul and she taught us about empathy and understanding.’
Rachael and Isaboo were more than just companions; they were advocates for shelter animals. Together, they shared their love and understanding with millions of people through social media, television appearances, and public speaking engagements.
Advocates for Shelter Animals
Their work extended far beyond personal sorrow. Together with Rachel Ray Foundation, they became unofficial spokespersons for rescue and adoption. Rachael used her platform to share her passion for pets and educate countless people about the importance of responsible pet ownership. She also highlighted the plight of homeless dogs and cats, especially pit bulls, a breed that has often been unfairly judged.
Joanne Yohannan, Senior Vice President of Operations at North Shore Animal League America, stated, 'Rachael has a big heart and a creative mind. She possesses positive energy and sincerity which make her a wonderful champion for shelter pets. Rachael, John, and Isaboo were a remarkable family, and they will miss her loss forever.'
The Significance of Isaboo's Name
Not long ago, Rachael Ray recounted the story of how Isaboo got her name. They adopted her shortly after the sudden death of their first Pit Bull, Cynthia. Isaboo was named as a combination of Isabella and Boo. Isabella was Rachael's favorite girl’s name and Boo was a play on words referring to Rachael’s first Pit Bull, Cynthia (Boo). This unique and charming name perfectly captured the spirit of this unique canine.
A Philanthropic Legacy Lives On
As a generous philanthropist, Rachael Ray continues to support animal welfare through the Rachael Ray Foundation, a private organization that is fully funded by sales of Rachael Ray Nutrish. While there may never be another Isaboo, Rachael's dedication and commitment have and will continue to help countless companion animals find responsible, loving homes.
