Preparing for Z Pop Auditions: Tips for Non-Singers with Good Dancer and Visuals

Are you aspiring to be a part of the exciting world of Z Pop but don't feel confident about your singing abilities? No worries! I am here to guide you through the preparation process based on my own experiences and tips that have worked wonders for others in similar endeavors.

Know Your Strengths: The Key to Success

It's important to identify your strongest areas. While being a great singer is always ideal, if that’s not your forte, focus on rapping and dancing. Visual appeal is also crucial, so ensure you are well-groomed and presentable.

For Visuals

Check your natural look and find out what makes you shine. Experiment with different hairstyles and grooming techniques. Drink plenty of water for clear and acne-free skin. Trim your hair to a style that suits you well – clean-shaven for boys, mid-length for girls, or long if straight and silky.

Understanding Your Strengths

Let’s break down the skills and how to improve them:

Singing

If you can sing like a professional or aspire to do so, keep practicing. However, if you are a beginner, I highly recommend downloading the app YouSician. It offers comprehensive vocal training with daily exercises that you can practice at home.

Key steps:

Start your day by brushing your teeth and gargling with warm or hot water, adding turmeric and salt for throat health. Do a 15-minute vocal warm-up before practicing. Aim to practice daily, using YouSician or other sources for lessons.

Rapping

Rapping doesn't require professional training but a lot of practice and hard work.

Begin with simple, gentle English or Korean raps, progressing to swag and flow as you get comfortable. Look at songs like "Red Velvet" for gentle raps and "LATATA" by G-Idle for raps with swag. Once you master these, move to longer raps and spend time memorizing and pronouncing them correctly.

Dancing

Dance skills are crucial for Z Pop auditions. Here’s how to prepare:

If you have time, take dance lessons. Start with simple dance steps like rhythm stepping or shuffling, learning one at a time. Use channels like One Million Dance Studio for beginners routines, and practice in mirror mode with Mirrortube. Alternatively, you can learn a specific kpop song's choreography directly from video tutorials.

Physical Readiness

Ensure you are at an ideal weight for the part. Follow fitness routines recommended for idols, such as those from Chloe Ting.

Audition Tips

Dress appropriately for dance, staying away from rigid jeans but ensuring clothes are comfortable and presentable. Do your makeup and ensure your hairstyle is polished before the audition. Look at stage outfits to choose something that stands out but isn't too flashy. Be confident and show your personality. Even if you’re nervous, breathe deeply and smile, projecting warmth and naturalness to the judges. Speak fluently and smoothly in English, even if it’s not your native language. Duolingo is a great tool for learning new languages.

Remember, fate plays a role, but your persistence and preparation can increase your chances significantly. Good luck in your auditions!
