Why Did My Nose Piercing Still Haven't Healed After a Year?
I've had my nose piercing since April and have only taken it out myself twice. The first time I was terrified because I couldn't get it back in but after some tries I got it. Don't know how just lucky.
The second time I took it out was about 10 minutes ago. I was struggling to put it back in and panicking. And then I thought of a needle!!
I sterilized it and used it to carefully push through where the piercing goes. Then I pushed the bottom piece onto the pointy part of the needle and carefully pulled it back through until I had the bottom part of my piercing showing at the top of my nostril. Quickly put the top part on and found my hopefully foolproof way to put my nose piercing back in!
Factors Contributing to Prolonged Healing
Several factors could be contributing to the prolonged healing process of your nose piercing if it hasn't healed after a year:
Placement
The location of the piercing can greatly affect healing. Piercings in high-movement areas or those frequently exposed to friction, such as clothing or facial hair, may take longer to heal. Evaluate if your piercing is in such an area and if so, consider changing the location or using a less bothersome form of aftercare.
Jewelry Material
The material of the stud you are using is critical. If it contains nickel or any other tarnishing metals, it could irritate your skin and hinder healing. Look for hypoallergenic materials such as titanium or surgical stainless steel, which are generally better options.
Infection
Signs of infection such as redness, swelling, or discharge can indicate that the piercing is not healing properly. If you suspect an infection, it's important to consult a professional as soon as possible. They can provide appropriate treatment and ensure your healing process is on the right track.
Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential for effective healing. If you have not followed the recommended aftercare routine, such as cleaning with a saline solution, it could hinder the healing process. Follow your professional piercer's or healthcare provider's guidelines to avoid complications.
Allergic Reactions
Some people may have allergic reactions to certain metals, leading to irritation and delayed healing. If you suspect this is the case, consider having a patch test done by a healthcare professional to determine which metals you are allergic to.
Underlying Health Issues
Conditions like diabetes or immune system disorders can slow down healing. If you have any underlying health concerns, it's worth discussing with a healthcare professional to rule out any contributing factors and receive appropriate advice.
If your piercing continues to cause problems, consider seeing a professional piercer or a healthcare provider for guidance tailored to your specific situation. They can provide personalized solutions and ensure your piercing heals properly.
Remember, persistence and patience are key when dealing with a prolonged healing process. Take care of yourself, and don't hesitate to seek professional help when needed.
