During my time as a freshman 15, for every four months I was in a school of 2000, I was called gay 500 more times. By graduation, the number only increased. It's important to remember that people often change their attitudes as they age and become more understanding. If you find yourself standing out or facing prejudice, it may be an opportunity to grow and learn more about yourself and your place in society.

Developing Self-Confidence and Resilience

When people don’t respect you, you might need to find ways to earn their respect. This can be challenging, especially when you are young and sometimes underestimated. However, developing self-confidence and resilience is crucial for navigating these challenges. Remember that even as a teenager, people might not always take you seriously, but that doesn’t diminish your worth.
