My Journey into Fandoms: From Blinks to BTS and Beyond
In the world of pop culture, fandoms play a significant role in connecting people with their favorite artists and creating a sense of community. For many, the journey into fandoms starts with a fascination, a lyrics, or simply a song that resonates with them. For me, my first foray into fandoms was through the world of K-pop. Let's dive into my journey and how it has shaped me.
The Birth of Blinks
In 2018, K-pop began gaining more traction internationally, and being drawn to the vibrant world of Korean pop culture, I decided to explore it. My first introduction to this universe was through LISA, a member of the K-pop girl group Blackpink. I stumbled upon a lot of content online about Blackpink and BTS, and I was curious. I decided to give Blackpink a try by listening to 'Boombayah,' and I was instantly hooked. This became my gateway into the world of K-pop fandoms.
Excitement and Connection
I loved all of the girls in Blackpink, but there was something about Rosé that drew me in. Her unique voice and sweet personality caught my heart. When 'Solo' was released later in the year, I was shocked to find out that Jennie was not in the group temporarily. This sent me into a whirlwind of emotions, but I came out of it with a firmer connection to the group. I began watching the 'Blackpink Diaries' episodes, though to be honest, I don’t remember much from the series, I did remember the immense joy and connection I felt with the girls.
Gratitude and Persistence
Although my investment in Blackpink has shifted over time, I will always be grateful for their role in introducing me to K-pop. They paved the way for my journey into other fandoms, including ITZY and BTS. I realized that being a fan doesn’t have to be all-consuming; it can be a form of support and joy in one's life.
From Blinks to MIDZYs
My second significant fandom was ITZY, a K-pop girl group under JYP Entertainment. Their fans, known as MIDZYs, welcomed me with open arms. When I first joined the fandom, MIDZYs were incredibly sweet and helped me get to know ITZY better. It was a wonderful experience and one that I will always cherish. I may not regret joining the fandom, but my devotion to Blinks remains strong.
Nurturing a Sense of Community
The experience of being a part of ITZY's fandom taught me how supportive and kind the K-pop community can be. It reinforced my belief that fandoms can be a lifeline—their words and messages can inspire and motivate during tough times. I've often turned to the lyrics of BTS, a group I eventually joined, to find solace and motivation. They became a way to navigate life's challenges and maintain hope.
The BTS Journey
My first fandom isn’t just where I started; it also opened up a new chapter in my life—heart-attached to BTS. BTS has become a significant part of my life, primarily because no one else can replace them. They aren’t just my entire life; they are a significant force that changed my outlook. I am one who holds onto someone in my heart and doesn’t let go, no matter what happens. BTS has provided me with a support system and motivational guidance, and their words are a part of my diary entries where I swear to myself not to lose hope.
They are not just a group to me; they are a window into a world of inspiration, motivation, and friendship. Whether it’s reading lyrics, watching music videos, or attending live events, I find immense value in being a part of their fan community. The journey from Blinks to BTS is a testament to how fandoms can deeply impact one's life and provide a sense of belonging and purpose.
So, when I think about my journey into fandoms, I reflect on the lessons learned and the connections made. It's a reminder of the power of music and community to bring joy and strength. Here’s to more music, more fandoms, and more moments of connection.
