My Favourite Japanese Voice Actors and Why I Dislike Palutena’s Voice

When it comes to voice actors, preferences often vary from person to person. In this article, I will share my views on my favorite Japanese voice actresses and why I have a particular dislike for the character of Palutena. Specifically, my admiration for Aya Hisakawa and my frustration with her portrayal of Palutena will be the focus of my discussion.

Aya Hisakawa: My Top Choice

Aya Hisakawa is without a doubt my favorite Japanese voice actress. Her talent and versatility have earned her a place in my heart, and she has voiced a variety of characters across different franchises. She has brought life to characters on both the silver screen and on video game platforms.

One of the reasons I love her is her ability to bring out the essence of her characters. She has a unique and distinct voice that can adapt to the different personalities and emotions of the characters she plays. Whether it's a role in a classic anime or a video game, Aya Hisakawa always manages to captivate the audience with her voice. Some of her notable roles include Mercury and a character named "What’s her name" from "Oh My Goddess!" as well as the iconic Kaede Akamatsu in DR V3 and Zelda from "Breath of the Wild."

The Disappointing Palutena

While Aya Hisakawa is my top choice, I have to admit that when it comes to her portrayal of Palutena, I am met with pure disappointment. The thought of this goddess being brought to life with a soft, pretty voice is fine, but it is her interpretation of Palutena that has caused my irritation. In the games and adaptations where she voices Palutena, such as "Kid Icarus: Uprising" and "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U," her voice makes the character sound exactly like my best friend Brittany.

The mature, diva-like persona of Palutena is a stark contrast to the voice she uses, which is akin to a youthful, inexperienced character. It is as though she is portraying a character who is far too young to be a powerful goddess. This makes Palutena sound inauthentic and diminishes her overall charm and appeal. While Yu Asukawa, Daoko, or Nao Toyama might have a better voice for the goddess, Aya Hisakawa does not do justice to the role in these instances.

Conclusion

In summary, I have a deep admiration for Aya Hisakawa as a voice actress for her versatility and the emotions she can convey through her voice. However, her portrayal of Palutena in "Kid Icarus: Uprising" and "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U" has left me firmly disapproving of her choice. On the other hand, she remains my favorite for other characters and truly shines when bringing to life the voices of Kaede Akamatsu and Zelda from "Breath of the Wild."
