My Battle with Popular Movies I Can't Stand
Everyone loves a good movie, but there are a few films that I can't stand, even the most popular ones. In this article, we'll explore my unpopular opinions on several beloved films and shows that I found either frustrating or just plain bad. From TV shows like Dexter and Breaking Bad to movies like Marriage Story and Inglourious Basterds, we will delve into what made these popular titles a letdown for me.
TV Shows
The shows I failed to enjoy start with Dexter. Early on, I noticed a discrepancy in the plot that left me confused and frustrated. In the early episodes, the arrival of a body without blood traces was explained later in the series to be a result of a body being frozen and then cut. This made the show less believable and led me to lose interest. Similarly, in Breaking Bad, my favorite character, Tuco Salamanca, left me emotionally detached, and I consequently stopped following along when he died.
Another show that made it to my dislike list is The Big Bang Theory, ranked 12th on IMDb. It's a hard one to overlook, and I have to admit that I found it hard to enjoy. The show seemed boring and the humor didn't resonate with me. Despite the many positive reviews, I couldn't find enough enjoyment in it to make it worth my time.
Movies That Failed to Impress
When it comes to movies, I found it hard to appreciate the classics like Star Wars and The Outlaws. These films, as well as other entries in the MCU, DCU, and even other beloved franchises, fall into my category of 'garbage.' Let's take a look at a few of these movies that left me underwhelmed:
Marriage Story
The movie Marriage Story was the epitome of a film that I couldn't bring myself to finish. It followed a typical storyline of two individuals arguing, but I found myself disengaged and unable to connect with the characters. The film's portrayal seemed exaggerated and lacked depth.
Inglourious Basterds
When it comes to Quentin Tarantino films, Inglourious Basterds was a step too far for me. While it may be a praised movie, for me, it was an insult to real soldiers and an inappropriate level of violence. The movie's over-the-top nature, compounded by the disrespectful portrayal of military service, led me to avoid the entire film and recommended others to do the same.
The Outlaws
The film The Outlaws is, as the title suggests, a bit of a misfire. While the movie introduced me to one of the most annoying actors of all time, Adam Devine, its overall quality and plot were far from impressive. The movie's main flaw was its series of stupid ideas combined with a less-than-stellar performance from the cast. Anyway, the experience led me to create a review to warn others off the film.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
It's no secret that Ferris Bueller's Day Off involves a self-centered antihero named Ferris Bueller who takes his friends on a wild adventure. However, I found it hard to cheer for a character who uses his friends for his own amusement. The entire scenario felt manipulative, and it was difficult to invest emotionally in the characters’ journey.
Star Wars, MCU, DCU
When it comes to the blockbuster franchises dominated by Star Wars, Marvel, and DC Comics, I find it hard to enjoy them. The movies feel like they lack substance, with poorly developed characters and convoluted plots. The focus on visual effects and action scenes often overshadows the storytelling, leading to a repetitive and less-than-satisfying experience.
Reality TV and Other Disappointments
Lastly, I can't stand the notion of reality TV shows. While they may be compelling for some, I find them shallow and often exploitative. The idea of putting someone in a situation for the sake of a narrative or ratings is unappealing to me. I have seen enough of these shows to know what to expect, and they rarely deliver the entertainment value they promise. Instead, they feel more like exploitation than anything else.
In conclusion, while many popular movies and TV shows are widely loved, I have my own set of dislikes. From the complexity of Dexter to the over-the-top violence of Inglourious Basterds, and the shallow acting in reality TV shows, there are plenty of films and shows that I simply can't stand. Hopefully, this article gives you a glimpse into what turns me off when it comes to these popular titles.
