2022 was a year filled with both incredible experiences and unexpected challenges. For one individual, the year was marked by both joy and horror, as shared in this deeply personal reflection.

Unexpected Struggles: A Devastating Car Fire

Until December 9, 2022, my life was relatively uneventful. That day witnessed a harrowing experience that would forever be etched in my memory. While paying rent at the main office, I observed my vehicle bursting into flames. Flames were emerging from the glovebox when I attempted to retrieve my bag, trapping both my hands near the base of my thumbs and singeing my hair as I pulled out the cellphone charger from the cigarette lighter and shut the car off.

Fortunately, the vehicle was parked far from the building and no other vehicles were involved, sparing any further damage. However, the fire department faced a difficult task, as the tire exploded and the windshield shattered before the flames were extinguished. The Fire Marshal concluded that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit in the wires beneath the dashboard, which had been tampered with by the previous owner who installed an aftermarket satellite phone system.

Despite the horrors I faced, the year was also marked by incredible positive moments. It was a sight to behold, though my family and I were initially left shaken when my husband was out of town.

This was a significant sacrifice, as it involved a 3-day journey on planes to be with us during the holidays.
