Life's Unfairness and the Role of Faith
Have you ever felt that life just isn't fair? The English phrase It just isn't fair or It just isn't fair captures this sentiment. When something happens, and we perceive it as unjust or biased, we often utter these words. It is a common expression of frustration when we feel wronged or mistreated. However, what if this feeling of unfairness is part of a greater plan? Let's explore the concepts of fairness, destiny, and choices through the lens of faith.
A Selfish Perspective
A selfish individual might feel that life should cater to their every whim. But beyond that, what do we really know about life? Have you ever pondered the idea of God? God is described as omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. While these attributes are true, it's important to remember that God is outside of our time dimension. This divine perspective adds a layer of complexity to our understanding of fairness and justice.
Faith and the Choice of Good and Evil
God, as the creator of the heavens and earth, has given us the ability to choose between good and evil. Our choices determine the outcome of our lives. This is a profound responsibility that comes with the freedom of will. Despite the apparent unfairness of life, we often overlook the fact that God has given us the power to shape our own destinies. He has not created puppets on strings, but true individuals with free will.
The decisions we make matter. And yet, many of us refuse to acknowledge when we are wrong. We might feel indignant and refuse to admit fault, as seen in the phrase, "I refuse to admit that I was wrong." But does this make the situation any fairer? It often does not.
The Nature of God and the Judgment
God is no puppetmaster. He will not override our will, no matter how flawed our choices might be. This leads us to the question of how God, who is all-powerful, feels about the choices we make. Scripture tells us that when Jesus returns, it will be like the days of Noah, a time of great judgment and turmoil. In the passage from Genesis, God expresses regret over the creation of humanity, stating that their hearts are continually evil.
However, we often forget that Satan, the archenemy of humanity, hates us. He is likened to a roaring lion, wanting to devour and destroy us. Jesus referred to him as a murderer and a liar, and he uses humans to carry out his evil deeds, spreading deceit, killing, and destruction.
Through faith, God provided us with a manual to guide us to the finish line: the Bible. It is His Word, offering eternal guidance and the path to salvation. Most importantly, God offered His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die in our place so that we can escape from darkness and find His light. Even those who rejected Him were given an opportunity for salvation.
Rejection of God's love and sacrifice is never fair. By turning away from the only one who loves us unconditionally, we deprive ourselves of the opportunity for eternal peace and happiness. It is our choices and our willingness to follow the path of faith that determine the fairness of our lives.
