Is It Possible to Be a Stupid INTP?

In my experience, the eagerness to be skeptical often causes many INTPs to appear unintelligent. They are so skeptical that they fail to recognize obvious patterns and truths that are right in front of them, believing that this skepticism is a form of critical thinking. In reality, they are missing the underlying logic and failing to see the bigger picture.

Yes, it is possible for some INTPs to be considered unintelligent. In fact, some INTPs exhibit characteristics similar to those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but this does not always make them unintelligent. Likewise, there are INTPs who are highly intelligent and wield their cognitive functions with precision.

The Role of Genetics and Cognitive Functions

Intelligence is predominantly genetic, and one can exhibit exceptional cognitive capabilities regardless of their cognitive functions. Cognitive functions merely dictate mental preferences, not intelligence. For instance, a person might prefer logical processing (Ti) over emotional judgments (Fe) and still be considered unintelligent. Conversely, someone who prefers emotional judgments (Fe) might still be highly intelligent.

I have personally encountered several instances where individuals with INTP cognitive functions had an IQ of around 90-110, while individuals with other cognitive types, such as INFJ or ENFP, had an IQ above 130. This suggests that cognitive functions alone do not determine intelligence. Instead, intelligence is a combination of cognitive abilities and how one applies these abilities.

Levels of Intelligence

Intelligence can be categorized into several levels:

1. Having the Capability of Being Intelligent: This refers to the potential to become intelligent. 2. Having Intelligent Principles: This means understanding and adhering to intelligent principles. 3. Having Intelligent Principles and Wanting to Live Intellectually: This involves not only understanding intelligent principles but also being motivated to live in an intelligent manner. 4. Having Intelligent Principles, Wanting to Live Intellectually, and Actually Living Intellectually: This indicates a complete embodiment of intelligence in one's lifestyle.

Based on these levels, an INTP test result might roughly equate to level 1, indicating the capability to be intelligent.

Personal Reflection

Before I was very competitive and known for being intelligent, but I eventually became very lazy and fell into a depression. This experience taught me that mere potential does not guarantee actual intelligence. One must actively engage with and apply intelligent principles to truly embody intelligence.

It's important to remember that stereotypes should not be taken at face value. Testing and personal reflection can provide valuable insights into one's true capabilities and potential.
