Is 193 cm/6'4″ a Tall Height: The Pros, Cons, and Personal Experiences
Standing at 6'4″ or 193 cm, I am one of those individuals who often find themselves in situations where their height either provides them with an advantage or creates some challenges. At the tender age of 17, I am still officially not a man, but I have found that being this height has its perks and drawbacks.
My Standing Tall
Technically, I am not yet a man, but I stand at a decent height of 193 cm—a height that is not so tall as to cause serious issues, yet far from the short stature one might encounter at, say, 6'6″. There are some annoyances, however, such as finding pants that match my leg length and small cars that are not tall enough. Generally, though, I see this height as advantageous. I can look over even those who are considered tall at 6'1″ or 6'2″. For athletes, being 6'4″ is an advantage, as people at this height are much more likely to encounter others who are also taller than average in most sports.
Personal Pictures and Comparisons
In the pictures below, I am showcasing two different scenarios. The first shows me at a soccer tournament in Cincinnati, where I stood next to a teammate who is 5'11″. If you were to compare our shoulders, there is quite a significant height difference, around 4-5 inches between us. The second picture is of me standing next to my girlfriend on the eve of the homecoming dance. She stands at around 5'5″, or 165 cm—a bit taller than the average for a woman. These comparisons give a tangible idea of what 6'4″ looks like in relation to those who are slightly shorter.
Tall but Not Too Tall
A height of 6'4″ is tall, but not too tall. It is so tall, in fact, as to provide a sense of towering poise. 198 cm or 194 cm is still tall, and those who meet me or my friends on the basketball court are usually quite tall too. It is only a short distance to 180 cm and yet, at this height, some individuals still treat it as being somewhere on the shorter side, when even 180 cm is considered a relatively tall height.
My Personal Perspective
From my perspective, being 6'4″ is neither ideal nor particularly challenging. However, there are specific instances where my height creates some inconveniences. Cars, for example, are not designed for people my size. Sports cars, in particular, are a challenge; I find it physically difficult to fit in most of them due to my long shins and the inability to get my knees under the steering wheel. Airplanes are much the same; my height can make maintaining good posture nearly impossible, and the headrest often rests between my shoulder blades.
How about the benefits of being this height? Surprisingly, women find it appealing, and it is a boon at the gym, where reaching high objects such as light bulbs is a mere breeze. On the other hand, my brother, who is 6'2″, might envision this height as the ideal point. He is tall enough to be impressive without being overly inconvenienced by his height.
Considering my preferences, I would have been happy to have stopped at 6'2″. It is a balanced height that offers the same benefits of height without the physical difficulties that come with being 6'4″. So, while 193 cm or 6'4″ is a physically distinct height, it is a matter of personal comfort and perspective. It is tall, but not too tall, and the advantages and disadvantages depend on individual experiences and needs.
