Gratitude in the 21st Century: Discovering Joy in Modern Times
Given the fact that I was just 15 when the 21st century began, and billions before me had not experienced such a profound shift, should that not make me appreciate living in these times? Experiencing something great that billions before me didnrsquo;t, shouldnrsquo;t that make it even more special and worth celebrating?
A Lifelong Journey of Appreciation
Celebrate your life, look after your soul, and do your best. Avoid drugs and alcohol. Make good friends or walk alone. In the movie The Grey Man, the phrase ldquo;Itrsquo;s just another Thursdayrdquo; succinctly captures a perspective where experiences are so ordinary that they are often overlooked.
However, as you go forward and experience new things, some of which I will not see, remember to enjoy and appreciate them all. Itrsquo;s this gratitude that brings joy and a deeper appreciation for lifersquo;s moments.
The Value of Modern Experiences
Just being in the 21st century isnrsquo;t enough to instill appreciation unless there is substance and value in what you experience. The future isnrsquo;t necessarily something to look forward to, especially when it comes to the decline of an empire. Yet, difficult times can foster personal growth and greatness within individuals.
Take away technology, and you might find that today was actually better than the past. Peoplersquo;s privacy and freedom were real in ways you will never fully understand. These elements have transformed modern experiences and made them unique and valuable.
Age Isnrsquo;t Everything
At 15, you are still considered old, and it can begin even earlier. No one truly knows anything about life until it is lived and experienced. As Catlover aptly put it, we are only doers of life, living, experiencing, and reacting through it. So, age does not matter in the grand scheme of things.
Gratitude and Personal Growth
When you frame questions expressing a desire for something to be true, you should decide for yourself if it is really true. You can draw comparisons between those who experienced the advent of the new millennium and those who did not. This can indeed be a reason for gratitude. However, there are many other personal and profound reasons to be grateful.
I, too, witnessed the start of the new millennium, and it was a memorable night filled with fireworks on the River Thames. Though it was special, it was more significant because I spent that night with dear friends. I am grateful for that experience, but I am even more grateful for the children I have since had and the father who makes my life brighter every day.
We all count our blessings and are grateful for different things, and each one is special and relevant. Whether you feel gratitude for modern conveniences, personal relationships, or the simple moments of life, embrace those feelings and let them guide you towards a more fulfilling existence.
