When we turned 14, we would pretend to go horseback riding and even sleep under the stars. However, we were actually heading to the border to ride on the Mexican side.
Once there, we would find a local cantina and get a bit tipsy before heading home. We always managed to make it back by around 6 AM, welcomed by the scent of fresh tortilla bread made by my friends' abuelita. The next morning was filled with a feast of traditional Mexican breakfast dishes like menudo, huevos con corizo, refried beans, juice, coffee, and toast. These experiences taught me the value of trust, adventure, and the joy of simple moments shared with friends.
