First Award: A Heartwarming Journey of Perseverance and Humor

When the opportunity to participate in a poetic adventure came my way, I found myself navigating an unexpected journey of self-discovery, perseverance, and a shared giggle.

The Challenge

One day, in my 4th class, our teacher announced that a school-wide English poetry competition was about to take place. Those interested had the option to register and participate. At that time, I harbored a bad habit of signing up for competitions without fully understanding the commitment. The task before me seemed daunting, but I chose the path less trodden, deciding to prepare rather than shirk my duty.

From Boredom to Inspiration

As I delved into the task of composing a poem, the initial days felt mundane. Time passed but my mind remained blank. It was during the last period that an inspiration struck. The poem I wrote was eerily familiar, having been inspired by a childhood television show. Here is how it played out:

Ten little pigs were walking, one fell down,

One goes back, how many pigs were left, eight!

Eight little pigs were walking, one fell down,

One goes back, how many pigs were left, six!

Six little pigs were walking, one fell down,

One goes back, how many pigs were left, four!

Four little pigs were walking, one fell down,

One goes back, how many pigs were left, two!

Two little pigs were walking, one fell down,

One goes back, how many pigs were left, zero!

I performed the poem with a simple yet engaging gesture, mimicking the action of pigs falling down and the narrator running back.

The Performance

The next day, I walked amidst the crowd, repeating my line, fell down dramatically, sprinted back, and announced the number of remaining pigs. The performance was met with a mix of bewilderment and laughter. As the poem reached its end, I was in disbelief, questioning my abilities in the aftermath.

The Glory

It was Independence Day, and in the spirit of celebrating, the competition reached its climax. As the results were announced, my classmates cheering and urging me to the stage filled me with a sudden surge of joy. The first prize in the poem competition was awarded to me. Standing on the stage, I realized that I had finally tasted victory in school, thanks to perseverance and a bit of humor.
