At the time, I didn't recognize who he was, but he showed genuine interest in the Russian history book I was reading. When the band announced his name on stage, he excused himself to join the band, saying he'd talk to me later. However, the night got so crazy that we never had a chance to catch up.

Deep Purple was recording at a nearby studio when a lanky, high-energy blonde and a dark, moody-looking man came into the bar. I had to yell at them for paying the cover. Despite my initial rudeness, he was amused and even teasingly threatened to fire me if I didn't leave him alone.
