EURVISION 2019: A Journey Through Songs and Performances

Which is Your Favorite Song in Eurovision 2019?

This year's Eurovision Song Contest was particularly special, with Team Ukraine delivering a resounding performance, especially with Stefania's entry. Despite the excitement, I found myself without a clear favorite this year. This was quite unusual, as I usually tend to have one or two songs that resonate with me the most.

I didn't have a favorite this time around. No song really clicked with me, and truth be told, this was rather unexpected. I typically prefer to have one or three songs that stand out, but not this year. I couldn't pinpoint why, but these particular songs just didn't resonate with me in the same way they usually do. It felt somewhat odd to go through the entire competition without being drawn to any of the performances.

After the final results, my best friend and I had a chat. We both felt that the 2nd or 3rd place would have been more favorable for Ukraine. However, this was not because their songs were my favorites—frankly, I couldn't even remember a single song from the 2022 competition. This level of disengagement is quite rare for me and speaks volumes about how the songs didn't hit the spot this year.

Notable Performances and Songs

One song that stood out to me was "Spaceman" by Sam Ryder. The performance was outstanding, with Sam's outfit looking amazing and the spaceship construction on the stage adding to the overall impact. Unfortunately, as we can't vote for ourselves, I would have chosen Azerbaijan's entry, "Fade to Black" by Nadir Rustamli. His performance was superb, and the perfect mirroring of his dancer's moves on the two sets of stairs added a unique touch.

My favorite song this year has been Norway’s “Give That Wolf a Banana.” It's a work of twisted genius and utter ridiculousness, a unique novelty that brought a much-needed lightness to the competition. It never seemed likely to win, and it didn't triumph, but seeing this kind of creativity back on the stage is refreshing. Eurovision had been taking itself too seriously for far too long, and it was great to see this type of content.

Other songs that caught my attention this year included the French, Portuguese, Swiss, Cypriot, and even the winner, the Italian entry. There were a lot of really good songs, each showcasing a unique style and theme. This diversity made it incredibly difficult to pick a single overall favorite.
