Cordially Missed: The Unexpected Celebrity Impostors
Have you ever mistaken someone for a celebrity? It's an interesting phenomenon that occurs more often than we think. Let's dive into some personal anecdotes from someone who experienced this bizarre situation multiple times. I must admit, I have one of those faces—a face that no matter what I do, I always get mistaken for a well-known figure.
Boot Camp Nickname: Norman Bates
During my time at boot camp, everyone thought I looked like Anthony Perkins, the iconic actor known for his role in Psycho. My boot camp nickname? Norman. This was a pretty spot-on resemblance to the character Norman Bates, given my name. Now, if only I had the chilling effect on my chaotic family as he did in the movie.
When I was in Florida at another Navy school, the instructors and students constantly believed I resembled George H. W. Bush. While there might not have been a Nixon to call, it's safe to say I was often mistaken for the elder Bush. It's rather ironic, as I personally didn't see any resemblance between us. Maybe it was all part of their unforgiving military camaraderie.
Public Approach by Fans
Back when I was younger, every time I went out in public, strangers would approach me, convinced I was someone famous. It was almost like a game. Kevin Costner, Nicolas Cage, Jack Nicholson, Tom Hanks, and Harrison Ford were just a few of the names mentioned. Some people even thought I was one of their high school buddies!
The Night at the Bar
One evening, I went to a bar to watch a band of friends I knew perform. It was not my usual scene, as it was a rough place, known for being a local biker hangout. Nonetheless, I opted to be there and blend in. I wore a sophisticated outfit that consisted of a velvet blazer, purple camisole, leather pants, and stiletto heels, to stand out in a crowd of big, scary bikers. My hair was styled in a rockabilly-inspired ponytail, with some poof in front.
Sitting alone at the bar, I was suddenly approached by a huge, tattooed man. He beamed at me, said, 'You know who you look like, Kat Von D. Are you her?' I tried to vehemently deny it, but he was firm, even pulling up a picture of Kat Von D to confirm his theory. His insistence was unyielding, and he called over some of his friends to agree with him. As a result, for the rest of the night, I was greeted with 'KAT!!!' every time I passed by.
From Anthony Perkins to George H. W. Bush, and even Kat Von D, these encounters have left a mark on my life. They're not just amusing stories, but also a reminder of the power of first impressions and the ease with which a face can be mistaken for another.
