Building a Snowman in the Heat: A Florida Perspective

Building a Snowman in the Heat: A Florida Perspective

No, I don't intend to build a snowman during this holiday season. At 70, when it snows, I take an invigorating walk outside, return home, and have a mug of hot cocoa with a shot of Jameson's while I watch a Yule Log video and fall asleep on my recliner with my cat Basil curled up on my chest. Why is it always a snowman? How about a snowwoman, snowbaby, or snowdog? Geez…

By the way, have you ever heard this one? A mother took her young child for a walk one winter's day and they passed a group of people making human figures out of snow. The child asked his mother what the difference was between a snowman and a snowwoman, and she answered, "Why snowballs, my darling!"

I do! Unfortunately, there's no snow where I am right now. But, I wanna build a snowman.

Chances of Building a Snowman in Florida

Well, as it's summer here and the temperature today was 37°C (98°F), my chances of building a snowman are not good. Additionally, my chances of building a snowman in our winter are also remote as we don't get snow during June, July, or August, by the way.

Why of course. Clearly, I intend to build a snowman over the holiday season while I live in my lovely state of Florida. It's only double the maximum amount of degrees for water to freeze today, but by some miracle, if it were to snow, then I would build a snowman. A very sandy Florida snowman. A sandman, if you will. In all reality, though, if it were to snow in Florida for the first time in over forty years, I would probably be staying inside.

Why would I be staying inside? If you lived in The Sunshine State and then the sky suddenly opened up to reveal frozen water drops that would blanket the area you're standing on in a frozen sheet, wouldn't you? I would hope that you would be at least a little curious as to what caused the weather phenomena to occur. Or you're just happy it's snowing and you don't care about what might be in the snow and you'll build a snowman.

Personally, I'll stick with a sandman. The safe beachy cousin of a snowman.

My Winter Hating Stance

I have posted several snarky comments about winter as I really hate it. Sorry to all the snow lovers out there, this is just my personal opinion of winter! Anyhow, if you ever look up in the sky and see pigs flying, that will be the day I will be outside building a snowman.
