Jason Statham, renowned for his action roles and arguably his best and scariest movie performance, spent a part of his childhood in the next village to where I lived until recently. This places me somewhere in the Midlands, specifically in a region with a rich sporting tradition, given Statham's connection to the area.

John Hurt, the actor who brings the alien brought to life in 'Alien,' was born in the same town as Jason Statham but didn't live there for long. He moved to a neighbouring area for a short period before his family settled elsewhere.

Literary Giants and Local Heroes

Lord Byron, the famous English poet, owned a house near where many of my relatives live. His residence in the area suggests a strong literary and cultural influence on the community, reflecting the region's rich heritage.

Turning our attention to South East London, where two notable actors were born: Sir Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

Sir Michael Caine, one of the most iconic actors in British cinema with a career spanning more than seven decades, was born in Manor, South East London. He's widely recognized for roles like Flask in the TV series 'The Italian Job,' where his catchphrase “Yer’ only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!!” became a cultural phenomenon.

Born as Archibald Alec Leach in 1904, he was born in the adjacent suburb to where I live in Bristol, England. This proximity to Cary Grant's childhood adds a unique dimension to my hometown's history.

Interestingly, although he isn't as celebrated in the local area, his house has a blue plaque, and he has a statue in the centre of Bristol. His female co-star, Deborah Kerr, also spent part of her upbringing in the same suburbs of Bristol, adding to the local folklore.
