Blackpink’s Evolution: My First Bias and Bias Wrecker

Blackpink’s Evolution: My First Bias and Bias Wrecker

Returning to the days when I first fell in love with BLACKPINK and the K-pop world might seem nostalgic, but it’s a journey worth revisiting. Back in June 2017, I discovered BLACKPINK on YouTube, and my life-dedicated fandom, known as blinked, began. My initial biases and bias wreckers weren’t who I might choose today, but they played a crucial role in shaping my fandom identity.

The Birth of a Fan

On June 16, 2017, I stumbled upon the official music video for BLACKPINK’s debut song, “Whistle.” Pressing play, I was immediately captivated. The intense choreography, the vibrant music, and the distinct personalities of each member were an immediate draw for me. As I delved deeper, I learned about the concept of having a bias and a bias wrecker. A bias, or main focus, in a K-pop group, and a bias wrecker, a supporting member who excels in performances, were key to understanding and connecting with the group.

My first bias was Jennie Kim, known for her charming presence and intense performances. She was the charismatic heart of BLACKPINK. My bias wrecker was Lisa Manoban, who excelled in her roles to the point where she captured my heart. Both members had a significant impact on my early fandom experience, and although they remained vital, my preferences evolved over the years.

2023 Present

Fast forward to 2023, my fandom has transformed, and so have my biases. My current bias is Jisoo, both in terms of her singing and her dancing. Despite some changes in her performance style, Jisoo’s natural beauty and the puppies in her eyes continue to endear her to me. While she may not reign as the bias wrecker, she certainly remains a strong contender for that role.

The other two Blackpink members, Rosé and Lisa, also hold a special place in my heart. My first bias, Rosé, remains my bias to this day, known for her resilience and performances. As for Lisa, she became my bias wrecker due to her impeccable stage presence. Jennie and Lisa, former preferences, still hold a special place in my heart, but my primary focus now is on Jisoo and, to a lesser extent, Rosé.

Performance Analysis

Reflecting on my biases, I noticed some changes in the performance quality and energy. With the transition into the “Born Pink” era, there seems to be a shift in energy. Rosé, who I once deemed charismatic and full of energy, now appears more composed. Her performances, though still powerful, lack the spark and intensity I once admired. On the other hand, Jisoo’s voice, once cracking and unstable, has improved, drawing me in with her emotionally rich performances.

This change in performance dynamics is noticeable, especially in live shows. Rosé’s dancing behind the displays in recent concerts seems less engaging compared to her previous performances, while Jisoo’s weight issues have affected her stamina, leading to inconsistent vocal performances. Despite these challenges, their fans remain steadfast in their support and love.

A Fan’s Reminders and Loves

As a fan, there are constant reminders to stay committed and loving, despite the changes. Hydration, among other aspects, is important, and it’s essential to maintain positivity and support. The LCDs (Love Calendar Diary System) and random blinks provide a sense of community and connection. Admiration for Jooyeon (Jisoo) and acceptance of her as a bias, despite the changes, continue to shape my fandom journey.

In conclusion, the journey of a Blackpink fan is one of evolving biases and enduring love. Jennie and Lisa paved the way initially, while Rosé and Jisoo have continued to captivate with their performances and charm. The evolution of my bias and bias wrecker reflects the dynamic and ever-changing nature of fandoms and personal preferences.
