Beyond Party Lines: Reflecting on My Political Journey

Has Trump Made You Switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party?

Not quite. I left the Republican party due to Trump but did not become a Democrat. Rather, I stayed as an independent as I am far more concerned about issues than party affiliation.

Is This a Newsworthy Claim for the American Political Scene?

No. I’m not stupid. The Republican party has been in decline for a few decades now. I didn’t vote for him the first time and I am not voting for him this time either. I am still considering switching parties after this election cycle to give my old party the finger because they are degrading America for no reason except to have power.

The Evolution of Political Ideals in Both Parties

It is strange that the ideals that started the Republican party are no longer there. In fact, the Democratic party often promotes the original ideals of the Republican party.

Moving on to my independent journey, I’ve considered myself a moderate who has never belonged to any party. I have voted for Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, independents, and other party candidates since 1978. 2016 changed everything. In 2018, I vowed that I will never vote for any Democrat ever again. The lies and vicious attacks by Democrats convinced me that they deserved none of my support. Any party that is so lustful for absolute power will not receive my vote. EVER.

A Patriot and a Liberal

No, it's not really the fascist Republicans, but rather the project 2025 thing that I can see will be the end of my nation.

I am a patriot and a liberal, proud to be both. If I were not already a Democrat, I would be one. The Democratic Party is a 'big tent' party. We have two basic flavors:

Conservative Democrats

Conservative Democrats focus on four things:

Preserve the rule of law: This is how traditional American 'law and order' and 'personal responsibility for behavior' works. For example, Donald Trump was innocent until a jury of his peers decided otherwise. Support responsible leadership internationally: Supporting democratic Ukraine and reducing tariffs so that farmers don’t lose market share as they did during Trump's presidency. Support the growth of our capitalist economy and financial stability. Show good ole American common sense: Examples include addressing climate change, expanding access to healthcare, and supporting child care and parental leave for working families, among others.

Liberal Democrats

Liberal Democrats focus on:

Protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, good public schools, and more support for child care and parental leave for working families: Subsidized elder care and universal healthcare. Inexpensive higher education and higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations so they pay their rightful share of taxes. Regulated markets to protect investors and prevent catastrophic downturns.

There is no question that these goals are using government resources to help citizens give them security and protect them from powerful private interests. However, there is no chance of us becoming socialist. Democratic President Clinton balanced our budget and was the last president to reduce our debt. Under Barack Obama, our system made some liberal reforms such as Obamacare. Obama worked with business leaders and banks to save us from the Great Recession which could have ruined lives. For decades, Joe Biden represented the most business-oriented state in the US – Delaware. As president, he created 12 million new jobs, started rebuilding our infrastructure, reduced unemployment to lower than it’s been in half a century, supported small businesses, and managed inflation effectively.

No Opposition to Capitalism, Just a Desire for Humane Policies

Democrats are NOT opposed to capitalism. It is the only way to create wealth and reflect the needs and wants of human nature. Democrats know when people need help, and they want to be humane while keeping the power and freedom of a capitalist economy.
