Ben Affleck's Future in the DCEU: Is He Really Retreating?
No, he’s appearing in Aquaman 2. It seems Ben Affleck is a very fickle human being. Marrying the same woman again, joining the DCEU, quitting, rejoining, quitting, and joining again!
But Jason Momoa is always pretty straightforward on his Instagram, and the pictures indicate that the two of them will be working together again and Aquaman 2 is on the horizon. And don’t forget, Affleck is reprising his role as Bats in Flashpoint.
Breaking Down the Confusion
“I C2 questions, disagreements, curses, and hexes!” - Jason
After the Flash movie, many wondered, where did that come from? No, I believe he is not retreating at least not yet. There will be two Justice League movies, the first is coming this November, and the second in 2019. Ben Affleck will also star in his solo Batman movie, which might be released next year, even though they are still working on the script. So my answer is no; there’s definitely a lot to expect from him in the future when it comes to the DCEU.
What Makes You Think That?
Because he doesn’t want to direct the solo Batman movie. The poor man is writing it, producing it, and playing the title character. Excuse him if he doesn’t want to have to worry about directing the thing. I think he dropped out as the director for a noble reason. He said he wants to concentrate on being the best Batman/Bruce Wayne he can be.
It doesn’t mean that he’s dropping out of the DCEU, he’s just making sure that his movie doesn’t suck like the rest of them. That’s what people say, I actually enjoyed them. Not to mention, he’s friggin’ Batman! If he drops out, the DCEU is screwed!
Is He Just Having Natural Responses to a Ridiculous Situation?
Writing a good movie script is a tough job. Directing a good movie is a tough job. Starring in a good movie is a tough job. Doing all three is crazy difficult unless you have sufficient time and sufficient control to do it in a way that works for you.
Ben has an artificial schedule imposed upon him by the studio. He also has a studio that has shown itself with each of its prior DCEU films to be very involved in decision making. That means the studio would be challenging his writing choices, challenging his directorial choices, and challenging his acting choices all while telling him to do it faster.
It was not a realistic goal to have a single person in that studio environment with a ridiculous deadline write, direct, and star in the film. Ben has done all three jobs, even on the same film, but never in this environment.
