Are You Really a Ninja?
After more than two decades of martial arts practice and being a senior student in at least two disciplines, I can confidently tell you… no… in fact, I’m not even good enough in the arts I’ve practiced.
But is it nice to know that some of you out there are… ??
Victory Through Stealth and Skill
?uuuuuaaatte… huuuuhhhhaaaayyyyyaaaaaaayyyyya.....haaa! There, I’ve just kicked the last opponent. We have won the war with nothing but silence and sweet kung fu moves. Our majesty of Japan is safe. We live to continue fighting.
But in all seriousness, while this image might paint a picturesque and romanticized portrayal of ninjas, the reality is quite different. The first thing to note is that I, a lifelong martial artist, have had the privilege of delving into various combat styles and techniques, yet I must admit, I have not reached a level that would earn me the title of ninja. I still have a long way to go.
The Reality of Martial Arts
Life in Japan, or any stronghold of martial arts, is demanding. I fondly remember those days when I was immersed in the world of kung fu and various disciplines. However, I quickly realized that the true path to being a ninja, or a master of martial arts, is not just about displaying impressive moves and skills. It involves an intensive and rigorous training regimen, steeped in discipline and unyielding commitment.
Discipline and Commitment
The journey to becoming a ninja, or a skilled martial artist, is a marathon, not a sprint. It requires an unwavering commitment, a willingness to endure rigorous physical and mental training, and a constant push beyond one's perceived limits. It's about the daily grind, the endless practice, and the never-ending pursuit of excellence.
While there are countless practitioners who strive for this level of mastery, it is essential to recognize that achieving this level of skill and discipline is no easy feat. It's a journey that requires patience, persistence, and a profound respect for the art itself.
The Ethos of Ninja and Martial Arts
The ethos of ninjas and martial artists, as I've experienced it, is one of silence and mystery. It's about understanding the power of subtle movements and the importance of stealth. It's about knowing that true strength often lies not in loud and showy displays, but in the strength of the unseen.
So, to all those out there who are enthusiastic about martial arts and the art of the ninja, remember that the path ahead is long and fraught with challenges. But with dedication, discipline, and a deep love for the art, you can certainly make significant strides towards becoming a skilled practitioner.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while I may not be a ninja, I have come to appreciate the values and disciplines that are inherent in martial arts. Whether you aspire to be a ninja, a martial artist, or simply someone who is passionate about these traditional practices, the journey is what truly matters. Embrace the journey, respect the art, and continue to strive for greatness.
And, to all those who may be on a similar path, remember that every ninja, or every martial artist, starts with a simple first step.
