An Open Letter to My Best Friends: The Promise of Lifelong Friendship

I’ve already told him what I need to say to him—how I love him and that he’s like a brother to me. He’s been a constant presence in my life, and I miss him terribly. I need him always because he is the one I have trusted the most, and I know he will stand by me in all circumstances.

However, there are things that deserve saying to my best friends. I often wish to confide in her, but the trust between us is sometimes fragile. I want her to know that I share my deepest thoughts and secrets with her, but the next moment, my secrets are out in the open. It’s not always ideal, but it’s essential to relationship building.

A Promise to My Best Friends

Here are the reasons why I need you to be my lifelong friend:

Will you be with me till the end of my journey? Will you keep me happy till the end of my journey? Will you stand for me when I’m in trouble? Will you forgive me when I do any mistakes? Will you not break my trust in you? And finally, will you do all that for me and vice versa?

This is something which I want to say to my friends, and it's even more meaningful when put into perspective by an unforgettable childhood incident.

A Childhood Promise

This happened when I was in 1st standard, the blissful age when anyone you spoke to for a considerable period of time became your best friend. I had a friend named Michael, and it’s unclear how and when he became my best friend. One day, I hurt my leg when I fell from a slide while playing in the school park. The next day, while everyone played football in the school grounds, I stood at the corner of the ground with a stick in my hand, drawing in the sand. Michael came over and started drawing with me, even though he loved football. This small act showed how much he cared about my well-being.

Unfortunately, Michael had to leave the school for the US after the second standard due to his family's relocation. Over the years, we lost touch, and even if I searched for him, I wouldn't find him on any social media. Time passed, and we cherished those fleeting moments when we were together. Now, I wish to share with you my feelings and the promise I want to make to my dear friends.

The Promise to You

I still remember you, Michael. I hope we will come in contact with each other someday. I hope you also remember me and are doing well in life. This promise isn't just a wish; it's a commitment to each other, a promise made in the innocent age of childhood and a hope for the future.

Conclusion

In this era, friendships can be both deeply meaningful and fiercely fragile. Our promise to each other is a bond that goes beyond the categories of time, distance, and circumstances. No matter where life takes us, the foundation of our friendship is unshakeable. As we grow older, let's not forget the value of trust and loyalty, and let's cherish the moments we spend together, like those precious moments shared in childhood.
