Am I Alone in Disliking Sonam Kapoor and Harry Styles as Actors?
When it comes to picking an actor or actress to dislike, I often find myself swaying towards the public figure, Sonam Kapoor. Yes, she is undeniably beautiful, but her constant displays of self-absorption and arrogance have left a negative impression on many people, including me. Unlike many of her contemporaries, Sonam’s behaviors in public often seem more geared towards showcasing her own perfection rather than genuine camaraderie with others within the industry.
Clashing with Karan Johar and Parineeti Chopra on Fashion Advice
The incident at the Koffee with Karan show where Sonam had to give fashion advice to other stars is just one of many examples of her inflated ego. When Karan Johar asked her to provide advice on fashion, she went so far as to ask another actress, Parineeti Chopra, not to wear tight clothing. This stark reminder of her own perceived superiority also brings to light her discomfort with recognizing talent in her peers. When Parineeti felt that Sonam was potentially better in fashion than acting, Sonam shot back with a highly unprofessional and harsh retort: 'Foolish!' This kind of behavior not only reflects poorly on her but also fosters an unhealthy environment within the industry.
Belittling Other Stars and Brand Endorsements
Another instance of her character falls flat during her time as the face of L’Oreal. When Aishwarya Rai had been the brand ambassador for many years, Sonam allegedly dismissed her as 'Aunty from another generation.' This statement is a clear indication of her inability to acknowledge the accomplishments of her peers and is a sign of her shallow mindset. Furthermore, in a Vogue interview, she had the audacity to say that 'Ranbir Kapoor is not sexy,' which not only was disrespectful but also shows a lack of real-world perspective on what people find attractive.
Harry Styles: A Talent Misused in Acting
Even though I don't classify Harry Styles primarily as an actor, it's impossible to ignore the controversy surrounding his acting debut. Although I admire his musical talent and success as a solo artist, his foray into the world of acting has not gone as well as many had hoped. When Harry Styles was cast in Christopher Nolan's film Dunkirk, he was given a platform that would push him to develop his acting skills, but it seems that his confidence boosted by his music career eventually outweighed his actual acting abilities.
Overconfidence and Incompetence
While I hold Keannu Reeves and Zendaya in high regard for their impressive performances, Harry Styles struggles to stand up to the bench. His acting in Dunkirk suffered from several issues, including a fluctuating accent and the feeling of an actor not quite in his element. His performance lacked the confidence and depth that his colleagues, such as Florence Pugh, brought to the film. It's difficult to criticize him outright when I, too, am not an actor, but his attempt at acting was not as polished and nuanced as it could have been.
It is clear that both Sonam Kapoor and Harry Styles have issues with their approach to acting. While Sonam's attitude and behavior in the public eye overshadow her talent, Harry's foray into acting exposed some significant limitations that he seems to be facing.
