A Lifelong Journey Through Nigeria's Cities
I have been living in Nigeria my entire life. I was born and raised here, and over the past thirty years, I have moved through various cities within Nigeria, experiencing the vibrant and diverse life this country offers. While I have spent significant time in different locations, one place I have fond memories of is Odaduwa Crescent, Ikeja GRA.
Second Visit in May 2022
My last visit to Nigeria was in May 2022. It was a brief yet impactful trip. During this time, I stayed for two nights, revisiting friends and exploring the city again after a long absence.
A Lifelong Residency
My journey in Nigeria began when I was born. I have spent my entire life here, growing up in Nigeria's bustling cities and witnessing rapid changes and developments over the years. Despite the many moves, I have always considered myself a true long-time resident, with a deep understanding of the country's culture, traditions, and the unique experiences of living in Nigeria.
Life in Ikeja
One of the places I have spent a significant amount of time is Odaduwa Crescent, Ikeja GRA. This location, especially close to the 21st Mobile Police Barracks, holds a special place in my heart. I lived there for quite a few years, enjoying the close-knit community and the sense of security provided by the nearby police presence.
The 21st Mobile Police Barracks Incident
One incident that stands out in my memory is the time during a coup d'état. The army conducted an assault on the police station, and as a result, all the lights in the area went out. This event was a stark reminder of the political tensions and security issues that Nigeria can face. Living in such an environment required a high level of alertness and resilience, but it also strengthened my sense of community and resilience.
Leaving the Past Behind
While the memories of living in Ikeja are rich and varied, I have now moved on from that location. The city of Ikeja continues to evolve, and so do its residents. The changes in the city's landscape and the growth in various industries have made it an exciting place to keep an eye on. I remain connected to many friends and connections in these places, but I have moved to a new chapter in my life.
As a long-time resident of Nigeria, I have a deep appreciation for the diversity and resilience of the Nigerian people. The experience of living in different cities within Nigeria has provided me with a unique perspective on the country, its challenges, and its strengths. While I am no longer based in Ikeja, I carry its memories and the lessons learned from living there with me.
Conclusion
My journey through Nigeria's cities has been a rich and varied experience, shaping who I am today. From the vibrant streets of Ikeja to the political challenges faced during a coup, every experience has added to my understanding of this incredible nation. As I continue to explore and contribute to Nigeria, I remain grateful for the opportunity to call this country home.
